Greg had his aneurysm June 28, 1996. . .He was in a coma 15 1/2 days. He was in grave danger. . . They told me he would never do anything but sit in a wheelchair the rest of his life...People kept telling me there was a rehab unit in Piqua that was really good...(The director) told me she was sure they could help... Greg was determined and on March 30, 1998 Greg walked out the door (of the nursing home) for the last time, by himself...We know Greg is one of our miracles and without the help of all the wonderful people and volunteers at the Rehabilitation Center we have no idea where he would be today. Greatest place for rehab there is!

Our son ....had shown signs of Pervasive Developmental Delay (PDD) very early in his childhood...He had a great deal of difficulty expressing himself...and even the smallest of transitions often led to rage reactions. He struggled terribly in social settings, terrified of crowds and avoiding any peer relations or play. It seemed almost like he knew he didn't fit in and he cried so often. A friend suggested we look into the Rehab Center to supplement ... (his) early intervention preschool program... Thank God for that message. He began his program and in all honesty, we could see a change almost IMMEDIATELY!....It seemed like both sides of his brain were finally working together and all of the things that hadn't come natural were beginning to happen for him!...We are absolutely sure that the Rehab Center helped bring on his full potential and we are so thankful for that! I have watched many hopeless families see their children blossom like spring flowers, thanks to the healing hands and energies available at the Rehab Center and Nicholas School. D.O., Columbus, OH
The program at Nicholas School is the most excellent I have seen. I am so pleased with all that Hannah is learning and achieving! Parent

. . .thank you for the work you have done with Max. I have seen great improvements in his educational abilities. . .
Before, Max couldn't and wouldn't read, especially in public. Over the weekend, he started reading a sign out in publice correctly. A big smile went across his face and he said "Mom! I just read that!" I said, "Yes, you did!" and I was overjoyed. It was wonderful. He spent the rest of the day trying to read signs, cards, papers, etc. . He kept saying he couldn't believe he was able to read the signs. . .
I just wanted you to know that you are making a difference and to thank you for your good, hard work.
Also, I wanted to thank the board and anyone else responsible for Max receiving his scholarship to Nicholas School. It has enabled me to send Max there so he can get the help he needs to succeed.
Thank you again VERY much,
Max's mom, Beverly
"We believe (our son) has been given a unique opportunity to thrive as he prepares to enter kindergarten. We may even have to consider revision of some of his IEP goals thanks to the dedication and support he has received in the 'school readiness program' at Nicholas School."

(Since starting your program) fear and anxiety have been noticeably reduced. She is not as shy in social situations. She has given up her bedtime ritual of being tucked in tight and is sleeping in a twin bed. (She had been afraid.) She is now swinging and sliding-not terrified of playground equipment, hairdryers, hand dryers, vibrating toothbrushes etc. Her meltdowns are 1/2 to 3/4 less often. Clothing issues have calmed down somewhat also. She will now wear flip flops/shoes without backs which used to be frustrating/angering for her. I've noticed many positive changes. Life has been more enjoyable/less stressful for the entire family. Thank you!
After my son was shot in Iraq and suffered a TBI, I researched rehabs and found this center. I knew that it was the right place for his treatment as soon as we walked in. The staff is so caring, friendships are formed here and the facility is so equipt.
While my son is in session, I am blessed to see the many families the center touches.
The Traumatic Brain Injury community is so very fortunate to have a facility such as this one.

When my son, Evan, first came to the center, he could barely lift his head from the ground. Today, he walks in his walker, wheels himself in his wheelchair, and continues to find new ways to communicate.
Evan has three classmates who are wheelchair dependent. When I see their legs in comparison to Evan's, the hard work done in the pool for the last 11 years and on the floor shows. Doctors and therapists are all pleased with his strength and range of motion.
At other therapies in the past (my son) has resisted going to the therapists and cried much of the time. That has been a major difference. Parent
The Rehab Center works miracles! My older son came here for approximately 2 years. He received many of the wonderful programs here at the Center. Today I am very proud to say he is an Honor Roll Student with Perfect Attendance. He is a well rounded and very pleasant young man. He has just passed his driver's license test and has the ambition to now go for his private/corporate pilot's license. All this I am sure is possible because of the training and tools he has learned here at the Center.
Important Footnote: I drive 40-45 minutes one way to the Center-that is how "worth it " it is to me!
I felt my husband was at a plateau with his recovery after brain surgery. Now I feel like he has hope again for a better recovery. I have seen significant improvement in his speech. His balance has improved. He is not as irritable. He looks forward to his sessions and seeing the friends he has made here.

Linda has right side weakness from a stroke. . .She feels that she was "dead" and the Center has given her life back.
Ciaran and Aiden both attended the summer program offered by the Nicholas School in the summer of 2011. It was amazing how much progress both boys made in such a short time frame! Ciaran was able to focus better and was more organized. His ability to communicate effectively increased and he gained valuable social skills.
Aiden also made tremendous progress. His fine and gross motor skills improved dramatically and his physical and occupational therapist commented on how much attending the summer program had helped him advance towards achieving age-appropriate goals. Aiden's speech improved the most and in just six weeks, he began to form complete sentences for the first time. His speech pattern became easier to understand and he was able to communicate better.
Every day, the boys were eager to go to the summer program. That alone speaks volumes because when two autistic children want to engage that proves something really wonderful is happening!

When my son started coming here, he couldn't do the things a normal 1 1/2 year old could do. He couldn't roll over, sit up, talk, crawl or walk. In less than a year he was doing it all. He now talks your ear off, can roll over, sit independently, crawls and he even walks with a gait trainer......I am so pleased with the programs he receives here and the progress he has made!
